Julio Pereira is a Portuguese director and producer whose work spans documentaries, short films, music videos, television and advertising.

Born in Portugal, Julio began his filmmaking journey in London, where he lived for 11 years while studying Film and Media at Birkbeck University of London. He also spent eight years working at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) as an Audiovisual and Theatre Technician, collaborating with artists and thinkers including Slavoj Zizek and Roger K. Burton.

In 2011, he returned to Lisbon, working as a Writer/Producer for Fox International Channels and National Geographic Channels. In 2016, he dedicated himself fully to filmmaking, directing short films, documentaries and music videos, with his work screening at international festivals, including the Short Corner at Cannes in 2018. He has also directed and produced television for Channel 4, including A New Life in the Sun and Help! We Bought a Village, as well as four short documentaries for Channel News Asia.

Since moving to Barcelona in 2022, Julio has continued working across documentary and film. His short film work has received recognition at festivals including L’Alternative Film Festival, where he won Best Microcorto, and TMB Film Festival. His documentary A Cor da Liberdade, about the Portuguese dictatorship, received the Audience Award at the Political Film Festival.

In 2023, he joined SeaTheFuture as a Senior Producer, creating films and digital content around ocean conservation.

He is currently completing Music, Choice and Destiny, a documentary exploring the relationship between music, choice and destiny through the lives of eight musicians.
